Raluca Şoaita şi Andrei Breahnă vă aşteaptă Miercuri, 3 iunie 2015, ora 19, la galeria din Str. Plantelor nr. 50, Bucureşti, la deschiderea noilor expoziţii EASTWARDS PROSPECTUS. Artiștii Igor Bošnjak și Floriama Cândea vor prezenta expoziţiile în cadrul unui tur ghidat.

Accumulated History
Expoziţie organizată sub patronajul Ambasadei Bosniei și Herţegovinei la București

Accumulated History este prima expoziţie personală a artistului Igor Bošnjak în România. Ea cuprinde lucrări recente şi în premieră trilogia “It is not the literal past that rules us, it is image of the past”, o lucrare realizată în ultimii trei ani, care cuprinde operele video “Hotel Balkan”, “Everything You Thought Was Wrong” şi “Future Cavern”. Alte lucrări prezentate în expoziţie vor fi “Self-management”, “Yugoslavian Space Program” şi “Contemporary Cemeteries”. Preocupările artistului gravitează în jurul unei culturi a reamintirii fostei Iugoslavii, cu evoluţia şi importanţa ei pentru generaţiile viitoare.
Lucrarea “Hotel Balkan” a fost filmată în bunker-ul anti-nuclear a lui Tito, fostul preşedinte al Iugoslaviei. Ea prezintă o imagine din trecut care poate părea mai futuristă decât imagini plauzibile dintr-un viitor imaginat. Chiar şi filmele science fiction par uneori nu atât o călătorie în viitor cât o explorare a unui trecut necunoscut. Cu alte cuvinte suntem confruntaţi nu atât cu o situaţie inimaginabilă, ci cu variante ale trecutului care nu au devenit realitate. Igor Bošnjak prezintă în lucrarea “Hotel Balkan” un viitor al trecutului care nu a reuşit să devină niciodată prezent, deşi acest trecut există de fapt.

Prin aluzii la illustraţiile științifice METABASIS examinează discret conexiunea multilaterală dintre segmentare și recombinare. Lucrările Floriamei Cândea înfățişează hibrizi stranii, care preiau trăsături provenite din regnul botanic şi cel animal. Aceste corpuri misterioase, ce par a fi fragmentate, creează incertudine în ceea ce privește intergritatea, originea și constituția lor ca organisme vii.

METABASIS expune o serie de procese artistice care interoghează granițele dintre pictură şi fotografie precum și raportul dintre imagine și suporturile ei.

Prin intervenţii pre- și post-producție, manipulări fotografice care reprezintă frunze, rădăcini, viscere, carne și fructe fuzionează în organe neobișnuite. Imaginile lor sunt transferate pe pelicule de kombucha sau revelate pe pânze. Pe suprafața pictată, impresii fotografice care au fost prelucrate se suprapun peste texturi rafinate, produse prin adăugarea şi ştergerea repetată a straturilor de culoare.
Membrana din kombucha este decupată în forme asemănătoare unor piei de animale care se desfăşoară pe hârtie sau casete luminoase. Cu timpul va oxida şi se va înnegri.

Noile serii de obiecte şi picturi ale Floriamei evocă o lume biologică paralelă, o natură alternativă în care formele naturale sunt realcătuite din fragmente și în care frumusețea ascunde în subteran moarte.

Accumulated History
Exhibition organized under the patronage of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Romania

Accumulated History is the first solo exhibition of the artist Igor Bošnjak in Romania. It is the premier show which comprises the film trilogy “It is not the literal past that rules us, it is image of the past”, that has been made in the last three years and which consists of the films “Hotel Balkan”, “Everything You Thought Was Wrong” and “Future Cavern”. Other works presented will be “Self-management”, “Yugoslavian Space Program” and “Contemporary Cemeteries”. All videos and installation talk about a culture of remembrance in former Yugoslavia, its evolution and the importance for the future generations.
The film “Hotel Balkan” was shot in the nuclear bunker of Tito, the former president of Yugoslavia, and centers on the question of why images from the past often appear more futuristic than plausible images of an imagined future. Even science fiction films often look like a journey not so much into the future but rather into an unknown past: it is not the unimaginable that finds expression in such cases, but rather those variants of the past that obviously failed to be realized. Igor Bošnjak’s film “Hotel Balkan” too, presents a future of the past that apparently never managed to become the present, although it actually exists.

Alluding to scientific illustrations, METABASIS discretely interrogates the multifaceted relation between segmentation and recombination.
Floriama Cândea’s works depict bizarre hybrids that share features of the botanical and animal realms. These mysterious bodies are seemingly fragmented, raising doubts about their origins, integrity and status as living organisms.
METABASIS displays artistic processes that challenge the boundaries of painting and photography, as well as the relation between image and its mediums.
Through interventions in pre- and post-production, photographic manipulations of roots, leafs, viscera, flesh and fruit fuse into peculiar organs. Their images are either transferred onto kombucha film or impressed on canvases. On the painted surface, altered photographic impressions overlie a refined texture produced by repeatedly adding and stripping layers of paint. The kombucha film is cut into hide like shapes that are unfolded on paper and light boxes alike. In time it will oxidise and blacken.
Floriama Cândea’s new series of works are an evocation of a parallel biological world; an alternate nature in which natural forms are assembled form cut-out fragments and beauty is secretly underlain by death.
